Royal
Deeside Full Day
Heading
north up Glenshee, over The Devil's Elbow, where in summer
and autumn the hills are purple with heather, (Calluna) we
arrive at Braemar. Then to Balmoral Castle, the Queen's summer
residence, where the forests, gardens,
riverside walks and exhibitions can be visited. We then head
west, following the River Dee, which cuts through the Grampians
(some of Scotland's highest mountains), through Crathie, Ballater
and Banchory. The nearby Crathes Castle and its wonderful
garden make a really memorable visit. We return to Fife over
the Cairn O`Mount road, with panoramic views back to the Grampians
and North Sea coast.
